About
SwRI archives some older data sets which may still be useful to the science community. These include various items from the UARS PEM instrument, the DMSP probes, NOAA's POES SEM data, several instruments of the Dynamics Explorer satellites, and approximately 30 years of IMP-8 data. | SwRI was responsible for the development of the data sets for the Upper Atmospheric Research Satellite (UARS), specifically the Particle Environment Monitor (PEM) instrument.
Other data sets SwRI used in collaborative studies with UARS was the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) for which we have F08 through F15 and the NOAA Polar Operation Environment Satellite (POES) for which we have the complete Space Environment Monitor (SEM) data from the NOAA-12 spacecraft and a limited amount of data from the currently active NOAA-15, 16, 17, and 18 SEM2 data sets.
Other data sets which are archived for safekeeping include the Dynamic Explorers (DE-1, DE-2).
Finally, there are a few other data sets which have been collected which include the Interplanetary Monitoring Platform (IMP-8) satellites and the Geo-Solar Indices which contain relevant solar and magnetic activity proxies to determine the solar and Earth's magnetic activity. These indicies are often used to place data in context for proper evaluation of the activity level of the Sun-Earth system.
